ENGLISH VERSION (updated to v2.86) This is a modest fan expansion by a playtester for the 2nd edition's three official expansions. The underlying premise is to boost the dynamic between Rohan and Isengard, and add flavor to the Companions, rework Saruman and Treebeard, and breathe life into Faramir, Éowyn, and Gríma as fully-fledged Characters.
Last weekend my fiancé and I did a back to back session of Battle of Five Armies into War of the Ring and used Fate of Erebor because I actually managed to win the first game as the Shadow. It was a lot of fun, but I had a really good run as the Shadow. DrBoodog • 2 yr. ago. I logged one 2-p game with this expansion and thought it was fantastic! Description. The first expansion to the best-selling War of the Ring game makes the greatest strategy game created from The Lord of the Rings even greater, with more figures, exciting additions to the rules, and a complete companion game which enables you to re-fight the most popular siege battles at the end of the Third Age! The hero expansion is much cheaper but includes new heroes, whereas the campaign expansion has only the scenarios? This can't be right, so I am clearly missing something. For sure I don't need both of them (playing solo only), so my question to the swarm intelligence is what exactly is in the campaign expansion, that jumps the price that much 2. Feature completeness: Mod with greatest inclusion of expansions and/or promos available for the board game title. 2. Scripting: Mod with scripting that most reduces work in setup/play for players. 3. Component Quality: Mod with the best visuals/usability in terms of component quality. 4. I think this is also relevant in the context of official expansions and speaks to why so many players only use the base game. That being said, there are now quite a few variants to the game including those by the designers and chief playtesters, so I feel this list is worth compiling.
Cool. Maybe I will if I like the game enough. Never played it before so I still have to see if going through all that trouble finding a buyer for the 1st edition of the game, and subsequently tracking down the 2nd edition (which is pretty hard to do in my country) will be worth it.
The one that comes in the 2nd edition in two halves is already ginmormous. It adds to the epic scale and feel of the game! It also has more room for troops, so you won't have to use the army markers as often. But you do need to invest in those croupier sticks you see in war movies to push the minis around the map.
The expansion has 13 cards total, including balrog. Warriors has replacement cards which have an * in their number. These are listed in the rulebook, "setting up the game". 9 cards total. (Some overlap because both expansions combined have 10 cards with and * in their number, the Balrog + 9 from the Warriors exp.)

mdillenbeck • 6 yr. ago It is best at 2 players, and it really is just a 2 player game. For 3 or 4, you have 2 players control one side. They alternate turns taking dice and making the final decision. They are a "team" and not a competing faction. Concerning dice, the action dice aren't so random compared to the combat dice.

With 16 larger expansions, countless one-off adventures, and over 50 smaller decks of cards that make up "adventure cycles," this game can feel a bit overwhelming. But this revised core set is meant to be played as an introduction into the game, and all those previous releases still work with this new revised release.

As there are two editions of the War of the Ring boardgame there are also two different sets of expansions; one for the First Edition (also included in the Collector's Edition) and one for the Second Edition. It can be tricky to gauge the length of strategy games. A campaign can take up a single day or weeks, depending on how deep you want to go.
