My engine started making a worrying sound a while back. There's a kind of tick which is audible at light throttle from around 1400 to 2000 rpm. First sign of trouble came at startup after the first time I changed the oil and filter. There was a loud knock from the engine bay two times before the oil pressure went up.

On the whole, a diesel suits the Wrangler well. Having said that, the 2.8 CRD is total crap. It is a truly awful engine. Driving the 3.6 after test driving the 2.8 makes the 3.6 feel like a super car. The reason most people take the diesel version, in Germany at least is one of basic economics.
